Curriculum

Concept English Philosophy Concept English believes teachers should adapt units of instruction to meet the needs of their specific students. Teachers work from our Curriculum Maps and adapt our Master Units (located in SIS) which are based on our maps/scope and sequence developed using the Understanding By Design framework.. Teachers have a balanced approach to instruction adding texts, activities, strategies and assessments to engage students in meaningful ways to master the standards and  enhance the reading of our Anchor Texts. Using the Gradual Release Model of instruction teachers focus on modeling and application.   Concept English Advisory In 2016 Concept English created a volunteer Advisory Board to communicate and model our curriculum philosophy.     Information for the 2017/2018 School Year is Below 2017/2018 Focus Standards Overlay for English 6 – 11 Core Classes 2016/2017 Curriculum Maps for Concept English 6 – 12th Grade Core Classes Maps/Focus Standards 6thGradeFocusStandardsOverlay 6thMapEnglish 6th Grade Unit & Lesson Plan Requirements, Establishing Rituals and Routines, and Unit 1 PDF6th  6thGradeEnglish-Req-Rituals-Unit1 ___________________________________________________________ Maps/Focus Standards 7thGradeFocusStandardsOverlay 7thMapEnglish 7th Grade Unit & Lesson Plan Requirements, Establishing Rituals and Routines, and Unit 1 PDF 7thGradeEnglish-Req-Rituals-Unit1  _________________________________________________________________ Maps/Focus Standards 8thGradeFocusStandardsOverlay 8thMapEnglish 8th Grade Unit & Lesson Plan Requirements, Establishing Rituals and Routines, and Unit 1 PDF 8thGradeEnglish-Req-Rituals-Unti1 _________________________________________________________________ Maps/Focus Standards 9thGradeFocusStandardsOverlay 9thEnglish  English I (9th Grade) Unit & Lesson Plan Requirements, Establishing Rituals and Routines, and Unit 1 PDF EnglishI-Req-Rituals-Unit1 __________________________________________________________________ Maps/Focus Standards 10thGradeFocusStandardsOverlay  10thEnglish English II (1oth grade) Grade Unit & Lesson Plan Requirements, Establishing Rituals and Routines, and Unit 1 PDF EnglishII-Req-Rituals-Unit1 __________________________________________________________________ Maps/Focus Standards 11thGradeFocusStandardsOverlay 11thEnglish English III(11th grade) Grade Unit & Lesson Plan Requirements, Establishing Rituals and Routines, and Unit 1 PDF EnglishIII-Req-Rituals-Unit1  ___________________________________________________________________ Map 12thEnglish2016-2017 English IV(12th grade) Grade Unit & Lesson Plan Requirements, Establishing Rituals and Routines, and Unit 1 PDF EnglishIV-Req-Rituals-Unit1    Other Concept Schools’ asks all Seniors to conduct and write a research paper.  The final details/deadlines are set by each school with the hope that the work be completed by the beginning of the Spring semester of a student’s senior year.  Suggested are attached.
